Sacred Initiation at the Nashik Kumbh

At the Nashik Kumbh Mela, on the banks of the holy Godavari river, the revered Sitaramdas Bapa performed the sacred initiation of Bhaktiram. Taking the sacred ash from his own dhuna — the eternal flame of the renunciant — and mixing it with the waters of Mother Godavari, he anointed Bhaktiram’s body and formally accepted him as his disciple.
Following the established rites of the Panch Tera Bhai Tyagi Khalsa tradition, Guru Sitaramdas bestowed upon Bhaktiram a new name — Bajarangdas — and imparted to him the teachings of dharma. With his mind now focused and sharpened, Bajarangdas absorbed the deepest principles of spiritual philosophy with remarkable swiftness. This was all the more striking given that in his childhood, Bhaktiram had spent very little time in formal schooling.
Before long, Bajarangdas sought permission from his beloved guru to leave the group and walk his own path. Sitaramdas Bapa, who knew well the nature of his disciple’s revolutionary spirit, gave his blessing and offered the words of mahashukan — a sacred assurance of great auspiciousness ahead. Yet even as he gave his blessing, the guru was moved with grief at the parting of his dear disciple.
